This day was one of the most community centric DIY weddings I’ve witnessed! It was so moving to see how many people came together to make Amelia and Tierney’s dreamy queer celebration possible. Many hands were behind its design and creation. There were friends stringing lights on ladders, spreading tablecloths, officiating, working the sound system, and arranging every element of their day. On top of that, there was a major power outage in Marin County, which meant they had to scramble at the last minute to find a generator and enough candles and batteries to ensure they could still have a reception. I was in awe when I arrived to see a group of friends who had already collected suitcases full of supplies and were working tirelessly so that Tierney and Amelia wouldn't be stressed. It was a beautiful, loving reminder of the power of community.
The Outdoor Art Club is a gem of a venue that I absolutely adore. Easily accessible for all (located downtown Mill Valley) yet it feels tucked away in the woods, with its own little grove of redwoods where the ceremony took place. The rustic wood-paneled clubhouse was built in 1904 shortly after the founding of the nonprofit women’s organization, now a historic landmark. It's as welcoming and unpretentious as can be.
One of the sweetest parts of their wedding day was when, after the ceremony, they walked a couple blocks together with their officiant bestie to the nearest mailbox to mail in their marriage certificate and make it official. It was such a fun celebratory moment. I have so much love and gratitude for being a part of this day.
